CURRICULUM
Francesco Vultaggio was born in Erice (Trapani) in 1982. A student of Maestro Simone Alaimo and Mrs. Vittoria Mazzoni, he made his operatic debut in 2005 at the Belcanto Festival in Dordrecht, Netherlands, performing the role of Uberto in G. B. Pergolesi‘s “La serva padrona“. He was subsequently selected by As.li.co. for the role of Masetto in Mozart‘s “Don Giovanni“. He then debuted many roles: Doctor Malatesta in Donizetti‘s “Don Pasquale“, Count Zampano in “L’osteria di Marechiaro“, and Bartolo in Paisiello‘s “Il barbiere di Siviglia” (the latter under the direction of Maestro Donato Renzetti), Guglielmo in “Così fan tutte” (also for the As.li.co. circuit, where he later sang Haly in Rossini‘s “L’italiana in Algeri“), Cesare Borgia in “Ginevra di Morreale“, an opera by P. Combi in its modern premiere, Enrico in Donizetti‘s “Il campanello” at the Downpatrick Opera Fringe Festival (Ireland).
In 2009, he performed as Sulpizio in Donizetti‘s “La figlia del reggimento” for the As.li.co. circuit season, under the direction of Maestro A. D’Agostini and directed by Andrea Cigni. In 2010, he was chosen to attend the Accademia Rossiniana of the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro under the guidance of Maestro Alberto Zedda, and subsequently performed Don Profondo in “Il viaggio a Reims“, directed by Emilio Sagi and conducted by Maestro Andrea Battistoni. He then sang the roles of Betto di Signa in Puccini‘s “Gianni Schicchi” at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Messina, Doctor Malatesta for the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, Procolo in Donizetti‘s “Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali” at the Teatro Bellini in Catania (conducted by Maestro W. Humburg and directed by Beppe De Tomasi), Belcore in “L’elisir d’amore” at the theater in Sassari, Schaunard in “La bohème” at Teatro Coccia in Novara, Count Almaviva in “Le nozze di Figaro“, Doctor Malatesta, and Prosdocimo the Poet in Rossini‘s “Il turco in Italia” again in Catania.
In 2013, he debuted as Figaro in Rossini‘s “Il barbiere di Siviglia” at the Teatro Pirandello in Agrigento (a role he would later reprise for As.li.co., Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, the Marche Opera Network, Teatro Vespasiano in Rieti, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and for the Saison de musique de l’Université Antonine in Beirut). He then debuted the roles of Dulcamara in “L’elisir d’amore” and Michonnet in Cilea‘s “Adriana Lecouvreur” for the As.li.co. Circuit and the Teatro di Sassari, Don Alfonso in Mozart‘s “Così fan tutte” at St. George Hall in Liverpool, and Emilio in “Il cappello di paglia di Firenze” at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. In 2014, he performed as Schaunard in “La Bohème” at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona.
For the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, he sang the roles of Figaro, Il maestro di cappella by Cimarosa, Matheo in Auber‘s “Fra Diavolo“, Taddeo in Rossini‘s “L’italiana in Algeri“, Dulcamara in “L’elisir d’amore“, and also took part in a show conceived by actress Teresa Mannino about “La Traviata“, titled “Teresa Valery“, in which he sang parts of Germont‘s role. In 2016, he performed as Dulcamara at the Royal Opera House in Muscat (Oman) for the Teatro La Fenice of Venice. For the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, he then sang Uberto in “La serva padrona“, Ping in “Turandot“, “Cendrillon” by Viardot, Sharpless in “Madama Butterfly“, Ramiro in Ravel‘s “L’heure espagnole“, and Enrico in Donizetti‘s “Il campanello“. In Beirut, he performed as Count Almaviva in “Le nozze di Figaro“, Belcore in “L’elisir d’amore“, and sang in Mozart‘s Requiem and Rossini‘s Petite Messe Solennelle.
He then performed as Marcello in “La bohème” for the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Don Profondo in “Il viaggio a Reims” at the Theater in Kiel, Dulcamara at the Theater in Manila, and Cascada in Lehár‘s “The Merry Widow” at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. 2019 saw him starring in important debuts: Gianni Schicchi at Teatro Coccia in Novara, Enrico in “Lucia di Lammermoor” at the Macedonian Opera and Ballet in Skopje, and Dandini in “Cenerentola” for the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. He also took part in “Viaje Barroco“, a show performed at the Teatro Colón in Bogotá, alongside étoile Fernando Montano. In October, he performed as Germont in “La traviata” during the Japanese tour of Teatro Verdi di Trieste, conducted by Maestro F. Carminati and directed by Giulio Ciabatti.
2020 saw him perform as Masetto in Mozart‘s “Don Giovanni” at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa and Teatro Sociale in Trento, Dulcamara in “L’elisir d’amore” at Teatro La Fenice in Venice and Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. Again at Teatro La Fenice, he sang the role of the Poet in Antonio Salieri‘s “Prima la musica e poi le parole“, conducted by Maestro Federico Maria Sardelli. In 2021, he debuted the role of Don Giovanni at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. He debuted the role of Ernesto in Bellini’s “Il pirata” and Marcello in Puccini‘s “La Bohème” at Teatro Massimo in Palermo. In 2022, he sang the role of Dulcamara in Donizetti‘s “L’elisir d’amore” and Gasparo in Donizetti‘s “La Rita” at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania. He sang the role of Germont in Verdi‘s “La Traviata” at Teatro Di Stefano in Trapani. Also with Teatro Di Stefano in Trapani, he performed as Dulcamara in Donizetti‘s “L’elisir D’amore” for the Tunisia tour. He sang Figaro in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at Teatro Cilea in Reggio Calabria. 2023 saw him engaged again in the role of Germont in Verdi‘s “La Traviata” at Teatro Massimo in Palermo and on tour in Japan with the role of Marcello in Puccini‘s “La Bohème“.
He has collaborated with many conductors, including Carminati, Renzetti, Ferro, Maniaci, Alapont, Percacciolo, Battistoni, and others, performing in theaters in numerous cities, including Como, Cremona, Brescia, Pavia, Verona, Catania, Palermo, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Bari, Foggia, Sassari, etc. He is the winner of numerous international competitions, including the Giuseppe di Stefano International Competition, Voci del Mediterraneo in Syracuse, Premio Santa Chiara, As.li.co. Competition, and the Arena di Verona International Competition.
