Coloratura soprano Gloria Tronel, has recently made a notable debut at the Opéra national de Paris, portraying the demanding role of Leticia Meynar in the French Premiere of Thomas Adès’s latest opera “The Exterminating Angel” winning international critical acclaim.
Born in Orléans to a blend of French and Romanian heritage, Tronel embarked on her musical journey at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux and then by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the National University of Music in Bucharest (2012-2017). She furthered her education with a Master’s degree from the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp, then joined the European Opera Academy in Florence before becoming a Young Artist of the Royal Danish Opera in 2020.
Tronel’s repertoire spans a diverse range of roles, showcasing her versatility. In Copenhagen, she has portrayed characters such as the Queen of the Night (postponed), covered the role of Oscar in Verdi’s « Un ballo in maschera » and performed as Ernestine in Offenbach’s « Salon Blumenkohl » and Praskowia Osipovna/Soprano solo in the Cathedral in « The Nose » by Shostakovich.
Additionally, she has actively participated in workshops and delivered performances in foyer recitals and open-air concerts for the company. Her engagements also included performances such as the Queen of the Night in a reduced children’s version for the Maggio Musicale, a Gala performance for the King of the Netherlands, Katerina Cavalieri (Amadeus) at the National Theatre of the Hague and the Royal Danish Opera, and Gepopo (Le Grand Macabre) in a concert performance at the Neubad Luzern, invitations to sing with the Haydn Foundation of Bolzano and Trento, or the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra. She has also made her debut as Norina in the opera Don Pasquale at the Opera Brasov in the end of March 2024.
Gloria has been recognized with numerous awards and invitations to perform.
Notably, in the summer of 2023, Tronel secured the First Great Award at the Manhattan International Music Competition in New York where she was invited to sing in a Gala concert at the Carnegie Hall, followed by the First Prize at the Mimas Festival Singing Competition on the island of Procida. In September 2023, she continued her successful streak by winning the Jessica Pratt Belcanto Prize at the Ottavio Ziino International Singing Competition in Rome and receiving three awards at the International Georges Enesco Paris Competition in October: the Grand Prix George Enesco, the Opera Brasov Prize and the Orchestre Colonne Prize.
